Yes, all the parks do get extremely crowded from a week before Christmas all the way through till a week after New Years.
The best advice I could give is to...
Get there ASAP (people start lining up to get in as early as an hour before park open).
Get FASTPasses for the attractions that offer them.
Go ride the rides during the parade (if you could care less about the parade).
For shows like Fantasmic at MGM Studios wait to see the very last showing (they have 3 shows during the holidays), where the crowds are a lot smaller and you will be guaranteed a seat.
If you want to see the parade claim your spot at least 45minutes prior, especially if you have little ones.
Bring your own food and drinks into the parks.
Look at the map before entering and plan your day (to best of your ability) (here's a site to help you do that http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/wdw/myVacation/customizedMaps/index?id=CustomizedMapsWelcomePage ).
If staying on Disney property try to avoid driving at all costs, use their buses even though they take a bit longer it will be easier and less of a headache.
Wear comfortable walking/standing shoes.
Bring a jacket for the night time.
And most importantly BE PATIENT!!!
Hope I was able to help some and Hope you enjoy you trip!

Crowds during the holiday season highly depend on which week you're going. Right after Thanksgiving and the first couple of weeks in December (this year it's through December 19) is considered the value season at Disney...so resort prices are less expensive and the crowds aren't high. However, the week of Christmas and the week of New Year's are considered "holiday season" which is actually busier than peak season (which makes holiday season the BUSIEST time of year for Disney World). It's VERY crowded and it's very common for parks to close to additional visitors due to reaching capacity...and resort prices are at their highest.

Yes, be concerned. The week between Christmas and the New Year is the busiest time ever for the Disney Parks.

Yes be concerned. You would be better going right now. The first week of Dec. is a great time to go. We went then in 2002 and it was great. Lines weren't long at all. The longest we had to wait was 15 mins. Just get where you want to go EARLY. And I mean EARLY. If the park opens at 9am. Get there about 730am. So you can be the first in line. And last but not least get the fast passes. Those are great. Have a wonderful time.

Don't be scared.
Crowds can get pretty bad, but its Disney World, so no matter what it will be amazing.
I was down there the week of Thanksgiving and it was pretty crowded, but I still had a great time, so its not really about the crowds, but about how much fun you're gonna have no matter what.
have a magical time!

Yes, you are correct to be concerned. A couple years ago I took my family there on Dec 26th and the park actually closed to visitors by approximately 11 am due to reaching capacity! Lines were horrendous, parking was silly and I vowed never to go again during the Christmas break!
