Which one should I buy? the 6800 may be more powerful and offer 256bit memory interface but the newer x1600 might have better shaders. They both will cost me around the x1600 is cheaper by a bit. Also the x1600 will help me when encoding movies but i dont want to sacrifice too much gameplay. Which one will look better when playing games?

I personally bought the XFX 6800XT because it was one of the few, if not the only card in that price range, that had dual DVI ports. I have two LCD monitors and it sucks when is DVI and the other is VGA.

Both video cards will perform equally well. We all know that we are probably going to be buying new cards next year, when DirectX 10 comes out.

Techman is absolutely correct. Both are comparable, but a 7600GS would be a better choice over the 6800XT though. the 7600GS actually replaces the older 6600GT/6800XT. 7600GT is actually a cut above all of them with the ATI based X1650XT being o par with a 7600GT. So essentially the X1600 Pro is on par with a 7600GS. But if you get a chance get the newer spec'ed 7600GS over a 6800XT.

probably not much help, but just saying that the 1600pro is a good card for gaming!
