Viewing Your Computer’s IP Information

Begin by first clicking on the Start Button.

Then click on the Run Icon, which will open up the Run Menu for you.

Locate the white area of the screen next to the word Open: in the Run Menu.

Now type in the word COMMAND and click on the OK button at the bottom of the screen.

For Windows XP, you can also type in the word CMD and then click on the OK button.

This will launch the Window’s DOS Prompt Command Window for you.

Now using your keyboard, type IPCONFIG /ALL and press the Enter key.

Windows will now display the IP Configuration Information for your computer.

When finished, simply close the Command Prompt window to return back to Windows.

Note: This Technical Brief Will Work For All Operating Systems Including Windows XP

You can click on Start -> Run -> type in CMD -> Press Enter

At the DOS prompt type in IPCONFIG then press Enter.

The IP address of the machine will display. It may start with a 10.x.x.x or if on a home network via a router would be 192.168.x.x

Good luck!

You do NOT need to do a scan to find your own IP

Either double click the connection icon in your task bar (usually the picture of the two computers or for wireless the single computer) and then click the support tab of the dialog box that comes up (it will show you there).

OR

Go through your control panel to the network connections then double click the icon for your connection there and then click the support tab (as above).

click start, then run, then type cmd to bring up a dos window. type ipconfig in this and it will give you all of your ip address details. This works on most versions of Windows, seeing as you haven't stated what you're running I'll guess that this will work for you.

Create a shortcut using;

C:\WINDOWS\IPCONFIG.EXE /all /batch \windows\desktop\ip.txt

That will put a textfile on your desktop, called ip.txt, click on that and notepad will open, showing your ip.
