Why are people from the Middle East so Barbaric?

Ok, they don't like America for many reasons. We supported a Jewish state in the Middle East and have directly/indirectly been involved in many conflicts. However, these people are acting like animals. They slowly cut off innocent peoples heads while they are still alive. They blow themselves up to take out a few American troops not caring that they are also killing women and children. They are burning each other alive because they disagree with fine points of each others religions. They call for a war, but they don't want to fight it like men. Instead they use holy places/schools to hide in. They are banking on the fact that we have moral fiber and would prefer to not kill children. They believe they are doing all this for a higher being that will reward them in the after life. If what I said only applies to a minority of the people in the Middle East, then why does the general public allow these things to continue to happen?

Ramshi - Let's come up with some examples from the last 100 years. My point is that while the rest of the world evolves the Middle East continues to act as if it is medieval times.

Thank all of you for dissecting the word barbarian. Obviously the word has taken on different meaning in modem times. A lot of words have historical significance that differs from its current use.

What a great question.
Any one who thinks your premise is not valid need only to remember the violence and riots that occurred because a cartoon was published that implied that Islam was not a peaceful and tolerant religion - thus proving the point - ditto for the Pope's remarks a short while later.

I don't have an answer - it seems that the Islamic radicals are still living in mid evil times - and, until I see some real outrage from the alleged majority concerning the indiscriminate murder of thousands of men, women and children in the name of their god, I will refrain from commenting on their beliefs.

Just in response to the poster above, the word barbarian is derieved from a latin word meaning that intented person does not speak Latin or Greek, it was intially used to describe the Celts, and Germans.

I don't think they consider it so much as "barbaric", rather that it is part of their culture. And Ramshi is correct. They learned From those who came before them. Well said Ramshi. VERY well said.
The United States can't well deny barbarism within their culture either. NOR the indiscriminate killing of literally hundreds of thousands- yes, even millions of innocent people. So let's not get so puffed up. We live in a great nation, but are not without faults by any means.

Your forgetting that words like Barbary Coast and Barbarian all have roots in North African and Mideastern culture.

Modern English has twisted these Bar base words to appear to be a evil thing.

But we all know the it is actually a religion of peace thing.

Why don't they learn from the Whites ? There are so many lessons from history. Wonder why they are still so barbaric ! Maybe they learned from the whites who landed in America behind Chris Columbus and butchered native Americans and took their land for free. Maybe they learned from the whites who invaded Iraq and caused genocide of hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians there.
