Perhaps a chimp can't be called a pet, since a chimp is so much like a human - one of our nearest relatives in the animal kingdom. It will be as much like having another person around as a pet as it would be like having a dog or cat as a pet. I also just read in New Scientist that chimps can be aggressive, and unfortunately we humans have the same trait - look at all the wars and carnage of the last century. Maybe you would be better off finding a roommate.

A lot of places forbit exotic pets like chimps. Chimps are not safe. Did you see on the news a couple of chimps killed their former owner and chewed off his hand?

I would say leave it issue alone or consult your local law library and check into your city ordinances.

Even if you are able to get a lisence, most places require that it be kept in an appropriate enclosure, not just inside your house running around like your dog or cat does.
