I know I'm supposed to request guidelines from individual publishers, but surely there is a way to do this electronically these days, instead of sending it through the mail? I have looked at several publishers' websites and cannot find any information for hopeful authors! Thanks!

Hey sillyolem...,

Sure there is a way to submit these days, of course. You will have to read about the catches and what they want. But here are some good sites.

You can send the manuscript to a publishing house in a major city and pray for good luck. If you simply want it published (and not publisized) you can go to www.lulu.com. Lulu.com is a free publishing site that simply publishes your book and you can personalize everything to how you want it. I have published multiple books on here, and people buy them too!

Many publishers won't even give your manuscript a thought unless you have a literary agent. And often, they don't look so much at quality but at what will sell (celebrity bios, tell all books...).

Check out the publisher I use at www.iuniverse.com. There is an initial investment but it can be well worth it.

And, they actually prefer doing business via email.

I also recommend trying http://www.lulu.com

You can upload the files to put it together and sell it from their site. All for free. Though for a fee they can also help you get into things like Amazon.com

http://www.duotrope.com has a wonderful, free market search with links to guidelines :-)

Good luck!
