I play the clarinet and when i play "C" it shows a half step lower at b flat. It is a Korg Chromatic Tuner.

Hahahahahahahahahahahaha. "Maybe you broke your tuner." Oh man.

There is NOTHING wrong with your tuner. You see, the clarinet is a b-flat instrument (that's why it's called a b-flat clarinet). That means that when you play a written C, the real note that is sounding is a B-flat.

Your tuner is actually showing a whole step lower, not a half-step. Basically, the 'clarinet note' is a whole step away from the 'real note'. This 'real note' is often referred to as concert pitch. So therefore, a concert B-flat is a C on the clarinet, a concert F is a G on the clarinet, and so on and so forth.

There are other pitches for the clarinet as well, such an A clarinet. In this case, a written C on the clarinet sounds as an A.

I'm not sure how to tune a clarinet....but have you dropped the tuner of banged it around?...if the quartz inside of it is knocked out of whack then it wont be accurate...try another tuner

I have tried Korg tuners and they suck. Take it back and find another one. Those things are way off. Not unless it's showing concert notes.(I don't know how to transpose so don't ask me if that's right.)
