I am somewhere between 5 1/2 and 6 wks pregnant. I had a transvaginal ultrasound yesterday. They saw the gestational sack and yolk sack but no heartbeat. My hcg level is 6000. My doctor wants me to come back in ten days for another ultrasound and she said she has to see the heartbeat at the next visit to say it'll be a viable pregnancy. I am worried because I had a blighted ovum over the summer and all that developed was the sack and nothing more. Should I be worried that my hormone level was so high yet they didn't see the heartbeat?

You normally can't see a heartbeat until around 6 weeks and even then closer to 7 is a much better time frame. Don't freak it out, I didnt' see any of mine that early and I'm on number 4. In ten days you'll see the heart and maybe a little "blob" that is your baby and your fears will melt away. Until then just know that it's normal and anticipate the most amazing sight in a few days. Congrats to you!

Although the heartbeat starts early on .... being able to see it on the ultrasound takes some time because everything is so little. I had an ultrasound at 5 weeks and 6 days and they found my daughter. They checked for a heartbeat meaning the baby was viable at 7 weeks and 6 days and found it. If your levels are still rising its a good sign. Hope it all works out for you .... good luck.

I wouldnt worry yourself over it at this point, worry wont change anything except put stress on your body and cause a miscarriage of what is there.

It is COMPLETELY normal for there not to be a heartbeat unil 6-7 weeks. There are many reasons for this delay, from a mother who produces high hormones yet hasnt been pregnant as long as those hormones suggest, to a embryo that simply develops slower than average.

Its not to say that in a few weeks, the heart wont start beating just like it normally would in any other pregnancy.

You will know what the deal is at your next ultrasound. Until then, just focus on living life each day at a time, just like you've lived it every other day.

I had an ultrasound done at 5 wks and I couldn't see the heartbeat or nothing, it looked like an empty sac. Anyways, I'm now almost 14 wks pregnant and everything is fine. I wouldn't worry about it. It was probably just to early to see anything. Good Luck, everything will be fine!!

As scary as it maybe to not hear the heartbeat. Five and half weeks maybe a little to early to hear the heart beat. My Ob/gyno didnt check for the heart beat until i was almost three months pregnant. Relax! If your still worried then tell your doctor you want him to check earlier. Or get a second doctor to look at it.

Around 7-8 weeks is when they can see and hear the heartbeat best. Sometimes as long as 12weeks. I am sure everything is fine

Please don't worry, though I would too. It's perfectly normal not to see a heartbeat yet. In 10 days you will know for sure. It's a long time, but stay positive

I wouldn't worry - your hcg level has to be closer to 10,000 to see a fetal heart beat. I'm sure you'll see it at your next ultrasound! Good luck!

The heartbeat isn't detectable until the 6th week.
Relax. It's the best thing you can do for you and your baby!
