i just shut my eyes and stick it in, and hope for the best

thank about what the tree will look like when it is mature don't plant under power lines ,to close to a building,etc. i was told when i was going to school for horticulture they told me to always plant a1$ tree in a 100$ hole not a100$tree in a1$hole.

l like that one Steve but here in UK i think seriously its got to be Spring before you plant anything otherwise the frost will see it off in one night

Pick a day when the surface isn't too crusty and just plough straight in.

Why don't you wait until spring time?
Maybe you will find a better,softer hole then.
