One science fair experiment that you could perform very easily is the rate of water erosion on a variety of substances. I would use a few different kinds of rocks and a some things that you would find around the house. A group of my students did a similar experiment. They found some rocks, plastic margarine tubs, hose nozzles and a few other things. They used upside down drinking bottles used for hamsters, rabbits and those kinds of animals. They set it to drip slowly onto the substance for a week or 10 days, replacing the missing water on a daily basis. They measured the amount of erosion by recording observations and measuring the depth of the eroded area with a very small ruler.

This project is designed for kids at the 5th and 6th grade level. You could do it for a higher grade level but you would need to make it a bit more difficult.

How accurate are the weather forecasters on TV?

A meteorologist friend said he will forecast no more than three days ahead. Ten days, as some weather people do, is a bunch of hooey.

Record the tenth, fifth, and next days forecasts - the record the actual temperatures, weather, cloudiness, etc., on that day and see how accurate the forecasts really were. A math teacher can help you come up with meaningful statistics.
