I love that dress.
As for whether or not it's appropriate, that depends on three factors:
1 - How does the dress fit you? If you're especially busty or long-legged, it could end up revealing more skin than you want to. In that case, leggings or a demure cardigan would keep it decent without ruining the dress for later occasions.
2 - What accessories are you going to be wearing with it? If you're wearing heavy makeup, lots of rhinestones and stilettos, it could be a little over-the-top. Ballet flats, light makeup and a chignon would keep it classy.
3 - How stuffy is your office? If the everyday wear is very conservative, you may want to consider a different dress, even though I personally see nothing wrong with it.
Just remember that the way you behave at an office party is more important than any dress. You could be in fishnets and a cocktail dress and still be classy compared to the girl pased out by the bathroom door. Likewise, you could dress like a school marm and still look tarty if you end up dirty dancing with your boss. You seem like a smart person though, so I'm not too worried for you. :)

I guess the party's over by now, but it's a great dress. If you have the figure for it and arent so busty as to squish out the top in an unsightly way, then GO FOR IT, I'd wear a nice fur shrug over my shoulders too -- faux mink isnt too expensive (unless you've got the bucks for the real thing.
Hope you have a great time. Dry clean the dress after the season and have them wrap it for storing in non-staining dry cleaners materials.

I think the strapless part is not the best idea for a party at your firm. Black is a great color however, and the lenght of that dress is perfect. If it had spaghetti straps I would say it was ok...but the strapless part is just to suggestive.
I loved the dress, but this is something I would wear to a party with friends rather than co-workers or a very fancy dinner with my fiance.
Check out this link...I think they would be more appropriate.

It kinda depends how it fits you-- if it's very short on or if you'll have cleavage hanging out. If you're unsure, wear a pashmina wrap around your shoulders, or a cardigan, at least until you get there. Once you're at the party, you can see what other women are wearing and decide if you feel comfortable removing the cover-up. BTW, that dress is gorgeous, have fun!!

I think it is very pretty, as well as beautiful for a holiday party. It is sexy looking but I think it would be fine. You are not all dressing as if going into work so I think it would be ok. What are the other females wearing tonight? Have you asked them about their attire?
Good luck and have a good time...

I think that the only thing that would make that thing to sexy is if it was a different color or somthing but the black keeps it calm I think it will be perfect. Try it on make sure that it is not to short and make sure that it fits your bust. You will look wonderful good luck.

Bring a nice shawl or wrap to cover your shoulders, which is appropriate especially in this season. If you're comfortable wearing it, it'll look great no matter what!

I don't think it's too sexy. it shows off your shoulders and legs, while slimming your body. I don't see any cleavage oming through, so seems fine. You could use the off the should faux fur boleros/ponchos to cover it up if ur kinda not sure.
