In winter, I often wear the clothes I've been wearing all day for bed, sometimes with an extra hoodie for warmth. But in summer I shower well at night and wear clean, wet clothes in bed, keep them on while showering in the morning, then wash clothes and bedding each day. Yeah, I know I'm a freak but that's the greatest thing in life. :-)

Is wearing the same night clothes for a week cleaner than wearing that day's clothes for one night?
So long as they change into clean clothes the next day and they don't smell then it's just unusual, not abnormal.
I don't like pjs but I have to sleep overnight at work so it's not appropriate to wear nothing like I do at home. So I wear that day's T shirt and pants and change into fresh clothes after my morning shower.
Just buy him some pjs and leave it to him to decide if he wears them.

I'm sorry, but can't you possibly read between the lines on this one. Might not the foster kid be sleeping in his clothes at night because he is unsure if, and when he might actually have to leave/runaway? Who knows what kind of environments he has been in. Maybe he feels safer in his day clothes. Night clothes like PJs might seem like a risk to him, making him vulnerable.
Make sure he knows that the home his safe. That at night he has a safe place to sleep, that no one is going to mess with him. It may take time.

It is both.
When you are tired, you will sleep no matter what you're wearing!
He is probably used to the idea from past experience or practice. It is a hygiene issue as well.
While in the Marines I often went without any type of real bath for extended periods of time, sleeping in my cammies, boots, etc. You get "FUNKY" after while. After a while of being FUNKY, things like rashes, infections, and bugs start to appear.
Of course it wasn't by choice, and the "facilities" were not always readily available, but when there was an opportunity, I got a shower, bath etc..
It can also be construed as laziness.

Sounds like a personal choice to me, not abnormal, who the heck is completely normal anyway? Just take a shower in the morning and put on clean clothes, and wash your bed clothes frequently. If you have been very active on a particular day, I would recommend a shower or change of clothes before bed. Especially if someone else sleeps with you.

I each so often sleep contained in the proper if it is vest perhaps, yet I in many situations purely take my clothing off, leaving undies on then transferring into mattress, i'd have a bathtub or bathe contained in the morning. I do do it at the same time as i'm wasted although I consistently awaken with the nighttime befores clothing on

I'm a 17 year old girl and I wear what I wore that day to bed, depending on how tired I am, or I just change my trousers and keep the same top on, I never wear the whole PJ outfit...Maybe it's a teenage thing!!

Our day clothing has dirt from our day out in the world. it is best to put on PJ's so that the sheets don't get dirty.
I imagine this kid probably came from a family that didn't teach him the basics of life. He might not know that he should brush his teeth before he goes to bed or when he gets up.
As his foster parent you might need to give him some guidance in appropriate behavior when it comes to grooming.

I'm 13, and every day I wear the same clothes I wore to school or whatever to bed.. I'm too old for pj's.. pj's are gay.
You are being paranoid.. let the kid wear what he wants to bed.

since he's in foster care he may come from a family with issues, and may not have been concerned with his welfare. he may have never had pjs and told to sleep in regular clothes. be patient and understanding with him. this is also a new, maybe scary thing so he may just feel comfortable in street clothes "in case anything happens". be careful with your assumptions try to make this a learning experience but dont be surprised if you have to work at it. your the adult in the situation so set an example and be nuturing.
