Just scrubbed my carpet, that itself helped a little.someone told me once that if you take a hairbrush to it, and "rough" it up, that it will work.
But be careful not to brush too hard or the carpet fibers will fray.

Try steaming the areas with a steamer or steam from a steam iron. Don't touch the iron to the carpet, just use the steam. Then rake the areas in the direction you want. May take several rakings until the area is dry from the steam. If you don't have a carpet rake, try a big plastic hair pick or plastic brush.
