It appears that some are born with more of a soul factor than others. When man was given meat to eat in the good book he was advised not to consume the blood. Harmones do change things and if your ancestors drank the blood of certain animals for thousands of years you can expect to become some what like that animal, and of course animals have no soul.

Nurture or Nature, we think that genetics play a small part in a persons characteristics, which i believe they do, but only a part, it is also how they are brought up, and the circumstances surrounding that particular individuals life experiences that will form a section of how they treat their fellow humans.
I know of a family of four two ended up on horrendous murder charges, two went on to become great teachers, all educated at the same school two slightly by a year or so behind the first two.
all four from the same genetic pool.
I believe people are not born inherently bad or good, the will to be either is in there from the start, it is life's experiences that give the push one way or the other , some call it straying from the path,
The biggest influence on a persons life is the parents ,yet some unfortunate children do not have the luxury of knowing their parents yet they turn out to be societies model citizens, that's why i say it is life's experiences that can give you the push . Regards

Good and bad are value judgments that are formed in the minds of humans. Each of us sees good and bad in different ways. What is "good" to one person may be "bad" to another.
Since we don't have these concepts formed in our minds when we are born, then we are neither good or bad, from our own perspective. As we learn these concepts we also form opinions as to what good and bad (behavior?) is.
One way to rephrase the question is: Is it inherently bad to be born human?
Since we have seriously overpopulated the earth and have hurt the environment in the process, perhaps any human who is born is a bad thing. But that same thought is based on MY ideas of what good and bad are. Some people hold the opposite view.
While many humans hold common ideas of good and bad, is it up to humans to be the ultimate judge? To think we are capable of being the (only, or main) judge of our own goodness or badness is probably a bad thing.
We've even gone so far as to create a (superior) being who has made us partially "divine" and therefore, better than other (more lowly?) life.
Finally, to ask the question: Are human beings born inherently good or bad? You must not be truly certain we are inherently good. This means you have doubts or think we could be, or are, inherently bad. In this way you have answered your own question. We can't be all good if you wonder about the answer.
But, then, it may be inherently good to ask the question and show doubt and humility.

Ali, No man is born good or evil, those that think themselves worthy of judging another human being are not, because all men are born equal. Its what a man does after he is born that counts in an earthly way. Say that your dad is a millionaire and mine is a shoe repairer; you would have an earthly advantage but both you and I are the same level in our brains and our souls can't be touched. Man makes his own mistakes and should not blame them on others. As has already been said whose laws do you judge by, before you say god's an atheist does not believe in god so which one of you is right (if you like me accept we are all born equal). The question still remains, by what law do we judge?

The Minnesota Crime Commission released a report a few years back. They wrote in that report this. “Every baby starts life as a little savage. He is completely selfish and self-centered. He wants what he wants when he wants it -his bottle, his mother's attention, his playmate's toy, his uncle's watch. Deny him these once, and he seethes with rage and aggressiveness, which would be murderous were he not so helpless. He is, in fact, dirty. He has no morals, no knowledge, no skills. This means that all children - not just certain children - are born delinquent. If permitted to continue in the self-centered world of his infancy, given free reign to his impulsive actions to satisfy his wants, every child would grow up a criminal - a thief, a killer, or a rapist.”

My classmates and I just covered this in class a few weeks ago. Socrates believed that all humans were born bad. If you ask me, we are all born neutral; it all depends on the victor of the war between people around you influencing you more or your own genes and characteristics influencing you more.

They are born with both. I don't believe that there is any other source for good and evil than humanity itself.

I do believe that evil is a learned characteristic that begins the day were born. We are not born angry for example, we learn that. Just as we learn hate and contempt. We learn jealousy, judgment, bigotry, and rejection, just as we learn love and respect, morals and peace.

God made man in the image of God. Man sinned against God and rebelled. Apart from God there is no life and no good. Everywhere in the world you can look and still see that image in people, but it has been marred. The Bible teaches that when Adam and Eve sinned they died spiritually. And "as by one man sin entered into the world and death by sin..." It says this in the Book of Romans in the Bible. The Bible teaches that there is none good but God that people have chosen from their youth up to disobey God and live apart from him. What man needs is a new birth. "Ye must be born again." Jesus declares to us. No amount of reformation of someone can make them good. So the Bible teaches that man is inherently sinful and bent on disobedience to God and unless he is born again one day he will die without Christ and perish.
"For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life."
The Bible says our righteousness is as "filthy rags". But also, "He who knew no sin was made sin for us that we might become the righteousness of God in him." What an amazing thing!
God's desire for man is to redeem him and give him eternal life with him.

Neither. We are born a blank slate. Our environment, upbringing, and the general world and people we come in contact with are what makes us 'good' or 'evil'.
