Ira Hayes. a pima Indian that lived on the Pima reservation in Scottsdale Arizona. Ira was a Marine during the WWII,and not only took part in the invasion at Hiroshima beach but was one of the five Marines that raised the original Flag that is now a monument. There were two flags that was raised that day, the org. and a second one that was bigger for photography reasons. Ira became an alcoholic, I remember stepping over him a couple of times while he laid against a wall at the local (7-11) convient store just off the reservation. Ira drowned in 2 inches of water while crossing an irrigation ditch on the reservation.
