I am 15 years of age and I am thinking of going on the pill. I have not had sex and do not plan to anytime soon. I just want to go on the pill because my periods last for a long time and my cramps are severe. I would like to know which pills you recommend and their side effects. I am a self-conscious teenager, therefore I do not want a pill that will make me gain a lot of weight or give me acne. HELP! Thank you. :)

If you're old enough to have periods, you're old enough to take the pill. Contact your local Planned Parenthood. They can help you find the best prescript on for your problem.
I have the same problem which is corrected by the pill.

You'll want to talk to your doctor about it. There are several different types of pills on the market and some work better for some women than others. You might have to try a couple before you hit on the perfect one for you.

I went on a monophasic pill at 16 and have had no unpleasant side effects in the many years I've been taking it. My periods are completely predictable, very light and PMS-free. I did gain some weight in the first couple of years, but I was a late bloomer and very thin when I went on it, so I don't attribute it to the pill, just maturing. Some are actually marketed to help decrease acne, so you might be interested in one of those (Ortho-Tri-Cyclen is one... I tried it really briefly, but didn't like the hormone levels changing weekly and went back to my monophasic pill.)

If your periods are really terrible, it might be just the thing for you, but only you and your doctor can really decide that.

You aren't too young if you have your period. No one can really tell you what kind because you have to get a kind that is the right type and weight for you and one that will help with your problem. There are many many type of pills not just brands. Get your mom or yourself to set you up an appointment with a gynocoligist. When you go tell him or her why it is that you want to go on the pill and will determine exactly what type and dosage you need to be on. Also tell them your concerns about gaining weight and such, they will work with you the best way they can. Never be shy or scared to talk to your gynocologist, remember you are not the only girl they have seen so don't be embarassed. Every woman has to go.

If you have terrible cramps like I did, I would definately recommend going on Ortho-Tri Cyclen Lo. Its a really low dose and doesn't have many side effects. I didn't gain any excess weight by going on it. Usually the pill will actually help clear up your acne.

I started taking Ortho Tricyclen Lo when I was16 years old. I have been happy with it for the past 5 years, it regulates my periods, it cleared up my acne, & i barely ever have cramps. Everyone's body reacts differently, but I've never heard of anyone having a problem with Ortho Tricyclen. Especially the lower dose hormone ones. I heard Yasmin is also very good, too. Good luck :-)

You're going on the pill because you have PCOS, hun. Take ortho-t. Either take the pills or when you get older you'll find it VERY HARD to have children. I went on BCP when I was 14 when I was diagnosed with a slight case of PCOS.
