Wikipedia defines this as:
"Online banking (or Internet banking) is a term used for performing transactions, payments etc. over the Internet through a bank, credit union or building society's secure website. This allows customers to do their banking outside of bank hours and from anywhere where Internet access is available. In most cases a web browser such as Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox is utilized and any normal Internet connection is suitable. No special software or hardware is usually needed."

Internet Banking is a great way to save time by conducting financial transactions from home. You don't usually need anything besides an account with the bank and a computer with an internet connection. There are things you should remember though:

*Always make sure you're running an anti-virus program and an anti-spyware program. A free one of each is available here:

* Beware of 'phising' emails - these emails are a scam which try to lead you to fake websites that look like your bank in an attempt to get your credit card or bank details. Remember YOUR BANK WILL NEVER ASK YOU FOR YOUR PASSWORD OR OTHER INFORMATION. They should also always address you by full name in all correspondence.

* Don't blow it all at once!

Hope that helps,
Simon H
