hydrogen has 1...in water u have 2 H so H=2*1=2
oxygen has 16 in water u have 1 O so O=1*16=16
so the H2O=2+16=18

since there are 2 Hydrogens in water, you would double its atomic mass (look on a periodic table) and add it to the atomic mass of oxygen (look on the same periodic table)
