Why do people feel so lonely around the holiday time?

It is funny about holidays how they always bring back the memories of the old times and the past. We remember the old friends that we don't have in out lives any more, we remember the old loves and the family members that are here no longer. Often, instead of focusing on what we have gained over time, we think about the people and the things we lost. Those thoughts bring about this feeling of loneliness. And especially if there is no one special in our life at the moment, who would hold back our dark thoughts and memories, the feeling of loneliness is inevitable.
