I just purchased 1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse (5 speed-stick shift) with a blown 420A engine. I have not heard many good things about this engine. Is there another engine out there that I can buy that will fit the Eclipse? If not is there a reliable place to have this engine rebuilt?

Go and buy yourself a 4g63 engine that was in a 1st generation Eclipse/Talon...do not buy a 2nd generation 4g63 because they are plauged with crankwalk...which will blow that engine too...and you dont want to have to replace two engines now do ya?

I dont know were you are located but the best thing to do is to find a jdm motors store or dealer. They get imported motors from japan with usually less than 45k miles. My cousin has a '98 Eclipse GST which comes turbocharged. The car has a lot of potential. With a new TD05 turbo, intake, heads, catback exhaust and a couple more mods under the hood. Another thing is how are you gonna talk crap about a car that you've only heard of and havent driven personally. Stop listening to other people and discover what the car can actually do.

Go and talk to the best mechanic you can find and see what he has to say about engine swapping...you may find a knowledgeable person in a parts store or he might be able to tell you of someone that he knows to help you get a good deal on an engine and the labor to swap.....

It's easy to find a replacement engine, but I would go with the 1st generation engine. Best results for the 2nd generation body.

If the body is in good shape, why not?

You can't just put a 4g63 in a 420a car, you have to do a lot of adjusting to the front end and would cost more than just buying a stock 4g63

Wow. That really sucks. Yeah, I wouldn't waste money fixing it. My guess is if you bought this you don't have much disposable income, so I'm not sure where what engine you would buy that would be cost effective. My suggestion would be to drive it off a cliff, save up your money, and buy a legitimate car.

I'm looking at a '95 mitsu 3000gt with a blown non turbo engine that i could get a replacement engine (with twin turbo) for a total (including the car) for around $5k. I'd look for a perosn that you know would do a good job, or if you know enough about them order the parts and instal them yourself. good luck with the project, let me know how you fix it and how it goes if you dont mind. thanks!!

You might try looking at the recycler(at local liquor stores) to see if you can buy an engine on the cheap.

Unfortunaltely, Mitsu's are like 80's american cars...disposable.

Good Luck!

there are things called: "engine swaps"

engine swaps are.... there is a example ( honda s2000 engine to toyota camry body) NOTE: in some country's engine swaps are NOT alloued in the streets
and most engine swaps you have to replace most of the stuff: (EX: ECU, custom euxast, intake, hood, raditor, ect)

oh and you would have to remove the old stock motor mounts and replace them by getting them welded to the car by a pro(tuner shop)
