If you add 9 together 9 times it makes 81. 9 is the only number I can think of that the multiples are exact mirrors of each other. For example, 9 times 2 is 18. It's a mirror image of 81.

What???
It's just the way math works.
9x9 is the same as 9+9+9+9+9+9+9+9+9 So if you just keep adding 9, 9 times, you get 81.
But you knew that didnt you ;-)

Because it's 10 x 9 (which is 90 - and before you ask, you just stick a zero behind the 9!) Take away 9 and that makes 81. So now, you should be reeeeeeally confuddled!

If you have nine groups of nine and add them all up, it equals a total of 81. That's what multiplication is: adding up GROUPS of numbers which makes adding faster.
