what kind of things does he like doing? buy something that he will use also in the years to come.A radio.tv with a wheather band on it would be nices.Or a laptop for him to use in his school year to come. or a cell perpaid phone so you can keep up with him and always knowing where he is will also give you a peace of mind. clothes also. But if you get him something that you can affrod and spent some time with a dinner and cake, I know he will be happy. and you can save up money to get him a car when he can drive.

As a former 13 year old, I would advise asking him. Nothing worse than getting a gift you don't want and then having to act how happy you were to get it.
