Nobody can answer that, and isn't it just a little more then strange that the Christians, including the Catholics don't know when their savior/god was born? How does the old saying go, something smells rotten in Denmark?

Of course, we can never be sure. At one time it was determined that he was born in "Year 1" AD ("AD" standing for "Anno Domini" Latin for "Year of Our Lord".) There was no "Year Zero", btw, which is why the 21st century actually started in 2001, not 2000.

The Bible says that Jesus was born during the reign of Herod the Great. It is now know that Herod died in 4 BC. It is generally held by Biblical scholars that Jesus was born between 6 BC and 4 BC. Believe me, many very intelligent people have dedicated their lives to figuring this out!

BTW, there is no evidence that Jesus was born on December 25. I have heard some pretty compelling evidence that he was actually born in the Spring.

I agree with Snide76258. It is generally believed that Jesus was born about 4-6 BC.

You didn't really ask, but since several people have posted this as an answer:
There is no such thing as "Year 0". See below:

Christ was born on the 25th December Zero B.C. or in Six B.C. or A.D. to decide you will need to look for the story behind the Gregorian Calendar from the time of the Romans, the modern Calender with Twelve months and Three hundred and Sixty five days and a strange number of days in February plus leap years was given to us by a Roman Emperor. Have fun investigating and confirming this.

Some people say he was born in year zero and others-year one either way you see that his birth marks the beginning of the A.D. years this is also the reason the new year is so close to Christmas.

First off, there was no year Zero. EVERYONE who is anyone agrees on this. And no, AD does not mean "after death". BC means "before Christ". BCE is the term used by historians, and it means Before Common Era.The year 1 AD (Anno Domini, year of the Master) was supposed to be the year he was born in, but being as the NT states that he was born when Herod was king, and Herod was dead by 1 AD, then he must have been born earlier.
When Jesus died, another Herod, the nephew of the earlier one, was not exactly a king, but a satrap, a Roman puppet king.

This website: http://petragrail.tripod.com/page5.html

claims that according to Luke, he was born on Sept 11, 3 BC.
Get that: Sept 11. Is that a gas or not?

Off a couple of thou Americans and everything thinks that It was the Day the Earth Changed Forever. I mean, I am sorry it happened and wished it hadn't, but hey, let's get real and admit that the world does not revolve around New York or the USA. LOTS of disasters and atrocities have been worse. Don't get me started.

Anyhoo, most scholars claim he was not born on Dec. 25 (This was the alleged birthdate of the god Mythra) but earlier in the year, when the proverbial shepards were grazing their sheep around Jerusalem. December is too late in the years for this. Nothing around the manger for a sheep to eat.

The Star of Bethlehem could have been a conjunction of planets, and this would have made the date earlier. If it was an unexpected unscheduled miracle, then all bets are off.

Can't derive anything from miracles.

No one began counting dates from the first Christmas until centuries after that date. The Hebrews counted from one date (the supposed creation of the world, I think) which was obviously bogus, the Romans from the mythical foundation of Rome by Romulus, one of two twins suckled and reared by a she-wolf. (More vague mythical bogosity). The various authors of the New Testament were not there. The Three Wise Men may have been there and may have even taken notes, but they left no written documents (Some Wise Men!)

There is insufficient evidence to prove this date in any US court of law.

If this is actually important, then we could conclude that Matthew Mark, Luke and John and whatever we consider a prophesy has really let us down. If they were divinely inspired, it's pretty clear that they were divinely vague as well. Is there some reason why the Word of God should be so utterly vague so much of the time?

If so, I have yet to find it. Maybe you can. Best of luck to you.

I am not sure why this should be all that important. I am unsure why we need to count years from this supposed date, especially since the date we think of as 1 AD was obviously bogus.

Jesus didn't say that we needed to count the years from his first birthday. Does this mean that we don't? I am not sure.

If anyone wanted to be sure about all the stuff we are supposed to believe or do, then that should logically be written down by You-Know -Who in the Book of Jesus, written personally by Jesus Himself. Is it wrong for me to expect literacy and clarity from the all-knowing Son of God, Jesus? Again, I can't see why not.

Sorry if this pisses you off, but that's the way I see it.

If I wanted everyone to know all about MY life, I would sure as poo write my own autobiography. Hey, think about it, wouldn't you? I am sure that I would not leave it up to four guys to do it decades after my death, two of whom were Romans that I never knew (Mark and Luke).

But I am not the Son of God, and never claimed my life was really all that important to everyone.

But there you have it. Best I can do. Check out the Wikipedia for more intelligent speculation.

No one knows for sure. Seems to me that no one will ever know for sure.

Then 600 years or so after the birth of Christ, along comes Mohammad and says "no, Jesus was a PROPHET, and a biggie as prophets go, but the last and biggest prophet was Mohammad himself. And there is no Trinity and God didn't have any actual son at all. What's up with THAT?

Not to mention Joseph Smith and Sun Myung Moon and hundreds of others all who claimed to be sons of god, messiahs, prophets and such. Face it, only ONE of these guys can be the real deal.

Decide that for yourself. I am not going there.

Does God WANT us to be confused?

Hey, don't know.
