I need a key copied but the key says 'duplication prohibited'. I can't afford to re-key all my locks...

take it to a lock smith chances are he will not question it I do it all the time

What is it for? If it's for an apartment, you can probably take it to a local hardware store for it.

I had a former roommate copy a set of keys despite being told she couldn't. Another roommate had to copy one of the keys when it broke in the door. She said it cost 2 dollars and took 10 minutes.

Go to a local, small hardware store. They'll probably be less likely to ask

you can get this done,,you,ll have to prove you own the property of what the key is for,,but i have a few locks like that,and i had to show proof ,that i owned what i was getting the key made for,,good luck i hope this help,s

Go to wall mart the people there usually take 30min to help you by the key machine cut it yourself.
