Live in Allston/Brighton (along Comm. Ave. on the Green Line, B Branch). It's cheaper (relatively), and it is somewhat sketchy (I lived there), but it's not really unsafe. I paid $1200 a month for a newer (but small) one-bedroom a few years ago - but I had a friend who paid $900 for a very large studio (which was almost the size of my one-bedroom). Lots of students from BC and BU, so it's sort of loud, but it's fun. The grime is character-building.

Otherwise, try Somerville (by Tufts). The apartments are a little bigger - or you can sublet a room in a house more easily. Somerville is more green and less congested, I guess, but it also might be a little more expensive per month.

The grime is the instant sign of lost capital. Your looking for
a one shot intern career boost. This means you will be meat
to the campus, they are playing russian roulette, Boston rocks.
The good news is the people that are Christians are indeed in
the network, posts on aol, yahoo, Boating, Video games, or
part time landlord management. The spooks don't like it but
the humans run this town, and you need get an agreement.
I get my students plus 300.00 a month intern doctors, dentists,
and fashion models, all posts on aol, or romance chanels that
are members. Paying rents and sharing costs is really a
second choice, the electrical unconnected is the clue. At least
consider laundry, ironing, or baby sitting, in that order, if you
do not land a lasir on the tenants. Great pizza town.
