How do you correct it? Get a new one?

It could have gotten unbalanced. Look inside the empty machine and see if all the tub seems to be symmetrically aligned with the outside opening. If not, gently push it so that it is.

some whirpool washing mashines are really old so they make alot of noise. For example my whirlpool machine is 5 years old and it is kind of loud but my friends washing mashine is really new and praticaly makes no sound, you might want to put it on a different setting like on ours there is delicate wet or really wet or dry and some others

take the clothes out and put them in evenly if that don't work get a new one

I think it needs a belt replaced
