Yup. I stayed at woodland's on radhakrishna salai, it was good, even has a swimming pool at a great price and excellent location. The phone no. is available on the net if you google "Chennai Woodlands"
Then there are a bunch including "Udupi Home" right in Egmore, with renovated a/c rooms for around Rs 1000/night, stayed there aand it was great, with a good restaurant called Masya
Hotel Dasaprakash has great food, and 1950s decor with reasonable rates (round 1000/day), worth a stay, very nice ground, plus a classic kind of feel.
All are very safe and friendly with good veg food.
Hotel Ashoka is ok, with good rate and food.

Still the good old New Woodlands in Radhaksrishnan Salai is the best for Family Stay. Next you can try Dasapraksh in Poonamalli High Road. There are others like Hotel Kanchi, Palmgrove and Ashoka which are also good.
