I'm having trouble getting to grips with the last bulk lot of books I bought and keep avoiding them. Usually I can't be dragged away but these seem to have a hopeless feeling surrounding them. I was wondering if anyone knows about psychometry relating to books. Or have I lost it altogether?

I don't believe there's any scientific evidence to suggest that books can carry vibrations from their owners, no.

As other have pointed out, they might simply carry some things which could present an unpleasant "aura," such as the smell of cigarettes, a grimy look or other unpleasant stains.

Next time someone offers some thoughts about the supernatural, I suggest taking this advice Richard Dawkins gave his daughter:

"'"Is this the kind of thing that people probably know because of evidence? Or is it the kind of thing that people only believe because of tradition, authority or revelation?' And, next time somebody tells you that something is true, why not say to them: 'What kind of evidence is there for that?' And if they can't give you a good answer, I hope you'll think very carefully before you believe a word they say."

what an interesting question! I never thought about "vibrations" from secondhand books, although I am a lover of used books. I always like to speculate about who owned the book previously, where it's been, etc., and love it if I find a note, ticket stub, book mark, or written notes in the margins. It's entirely possible that your intuition is correct: maybe the books you bought recently belonged to someone whose life was unhappy or ended prematurely -- you can't tell. At any rate, you don't have to take that on, and can enjoy the books for their own sake without any attachment to their past. Happy reading!

They certianly retain the smell.
I had the same with solzenitzyn or summat, the Gulag Archipelego, nothing haopened, two pages, sleep, 2 pages need a coffee, sort of book you just cannot pick up.

Vibrations? Get real - please!
Fingerprints, coffee spills, Splashes of bolognese sauce - plus other gunk the previous owner had on his/her hands when reading it - we don't want to go there.....
In spite of all the germs, I collect and read 2nd hand books avidly. I own hundreds and have picked up no vibrations yet!
Truly, they are just old books!

Books cannot carry 'vibrations' for heaven's sake.
They are paper and ink.
The only thing they can carry from their previous owner is the odd stain, a note in the margin or one of those annoying folds in the corner.

Yes and not just vibrations, I was loaned a pile of old "escorts" and "Mayfairs" once and the pages were all stuck together.

I found this to be rather unpleasant.

Yes, of course they can. Mediums can lay their hands on a book and know the owner just as they can with jewellery.

yes they can. All objects can carry psychometric traces. Try sitting quietly with the books one ay a time and see what comes to you. have you tried to look into where they came from originally?
