I think I want to purchase one for Christmas, but I know almost nothing about them. What's the difference in the two? Which is better? What brands are best? Also, which is the one that can play music videos and movies?

iPods use the AAC, or advanced audio codec format along with MP3, if I'm not mistaken. I personally preferred the Sandisk Sansa, as it plays MP3 and WMA files and has recording capabilities. It can also be used to transfer audio files via the USB port of any computer without a special add-on port, which was one of the main reasons I bought it (I work at a radio station and used the Sansa as a backup drive for newscasts when we had a few system problems.) The iPod simply didn't have enough features. For your money, I believe there are better ones out there than the iPod. Also, AAC is no clearer than the average 128 kbps MP3, although the file size is smaller. A plug-and-play multi-format player is your best bet for your money.

an ipod is a type of mp3. the ipod though can play music and movies and store notes and contact information. most mp3s cant do that. ipod is better but more fragile. mp3 usually can take more damage. ipod has less battery life. ipod can change brightness, and have sound limits which you cant go over. mp3s dont. ipods have games clocks alarms and have playlists you can make. the ipod is way better

ipod = mp3 player
mp3 player = mp3 player

they are the same thing.....just most know the ipod but its name of ipod. its like saying you want a coke or pepsi...you don't say you want a soda pop...you call it by its common name.

ipods are 3 times more than other mp3 players for what they are. the masses like the ipod over others cause it was first, looks best, easiest to use, etc. but the masses aren't always correct. ipods do have battery issues that have plagued them.

just look at them all and get what you like. they are nothing more than the modern day walkman radio or tape player.

iPod can do more.
Literally like a hand held hard drive.
A particular Pod does the movies, check into it.
iPods are only made by one co. ,mp3 is versatile.
