Hi Debra,
Go to Auto 1 or Auto Barn and buy a spray called "Shift it". It's especially made for jobs like yours. As well as cleaning the black brake build up on your wheels. Its also the best cleaner I have ever used for cleaning things in the home. It's 20 times stronger than the spray cleaners you buy at the supermarket.

Listen to Walter Chaos. Just leave it alone and take care of it with regular oil changes. The only way to truly clean the sludge out is to disassemble the engine and rebuild it.

A good detergent oil, changed at frequent intervals, will work best to clean out sludge. Remember to change out the filter too.

Just do frequent oil changes and don';t try any thing else--do not use anything but oil or you will clean so much sludge and dirt out of the motor that you won't have any compression in the cylinders.......... believe this one ----

Sludge results from neglected oil change. I change my oil every 3,000 miles or every 3 months just to keep it clean. If you want to flush the engine, what I do, I do the oil change every month for 3 months (every year). [oil filters are part of the oil change and the drain bolt gasket to ensure leak free]

PURPLE POWER FROM AUTOZONE EAT THE SLUDGE UP SO IT CAN BE WASHED AWAY WITH WATER...YOU MUST DISASSEMBLE THE ENGINE TO USE THIS STUFF...THERE IS NOTHING YOU CAN DO IF'N YOU AIN'T TAKIN IT APART...MIGHT AS WELL POUR 5 GALLONS OF KEROSENE OR DEISEL FUEL AND LET IT SOAK FOR A DAY THEN START THE ENGINE AND ONLY LET IT RUN FOR 30 SECONDS...NEVER REV IT... ONLY IDLE THEN DRAIN THE SLUDGE OUT AND CHANGE THE OIL FILTER

if you mean the outside of your engine, then use engine degreaser.just take your car to the car wash and spray it all over your engine and wait a few minutes for it to work then spray it off.its best you take someone with you to keep the engine running so it wont shut down and cant get it started again.
