I have English as a compulsory credit course in my first year of Economics Honours. I wish to know how can English help me to understand Economics better? What should I expect from my English subject. Thank you!

Of course English will help you with Economics. I really don't mean to be overly simplistic but when you study Adam Smith (who wrote his texts in English) among others, in your Economics courses, you will be thankful for the preparation you will have received in the English course. In your English course, you will probably learn about the basic skills needed to put together a properly written essay or research paper, as well as those needed to help understand themes and symbolism in the material you are reading.
Whether you intend to utilize the concepts you learn in Economics in business or in the classroom, it is your basic English course that will provide you with the ability to discuss and impart your opinions on macro, micro or quantitative economic according to the rules of grammar and stylistics.
I live in the business world. My Bachelors is in Accounting, which in my college was within the school of Economics. Every paper, commentary, audit report, analysis report, etc. has its basis in basic English. There is no escaping that fact.

English is a global language now. If you take English course it will increase your communication ability with most of the people around the world. You would be able to access more information on your subject from across the world because most of the websites and books related to Economics are written in English. It will also give you a fluency while answering question or writing out assignment in that language. You will not be fumbling for words and at lost for words. A basic English course would focus on your mastering of the four skills of listening, writing, reading and speaking in English. Your would have various modules which would focus on these aspects and they would be really helpful to you.

English courses are required at most colleges and universities that use English. The reason students need to take English is because they need to be able to communicate effectively in both verbal and written forms. When you apply to graduate school you will not be taken seriously if you cannot write a quality paper or speak proper English. Also, once you graduate most businesses expect that you are able to communciate clearly in both written and oral form. Thus, English courses are essential for all college students.
