1. the biggest thing that my coach stressed to us as far as diet was to DRINK WATER! ideally, you should stop drinking carbonated drinks all together, but if you have to have them drink diet drinks, because the sugar is bad for you. also stay away from other really sweet drinks like sweet tea (if you're from the south). juice and gatorade are ok, too, but not too much. the more water that you drink, the more likely you will be to tone down and loose weight. as a rule, try drinking water at lunch, dinner, and between any meals. save juice for breakfast and gatorade for after you run...but water it down!

2. eat breakfast (it strenghtens your metabolism). stick to cereals, breads, stuff with carbs.

3. most days just make sure you're eating healthy (fruits, vegetables, PROTEIN...all are important). don't carbo-load until the day before you compete.

4. also supplement your running with some "core" exercises (stuff like crunches, sit-ups, push-ups). excercises that work on your abdomen will not only help you tone down, but will make you a better runner!

eat lots of carbs for cross country
spaghetti has lots of it
and bread
and lots of protein and electrolytes after you run
it may not help to lose weight but its best for all the physical activity you do
hope it helps
