Is this a sensor that need to be replaced or do I have a vacuum leak or something? The bad thing is that it tuned my check engine light on and that is just annoying.

The weird thing is if I fill the tank the light will go away for a while, but when the tank gets lower it comes back on. Well this use to be the case. I think it is just on all the time now.

Gas caps these days are calibrated not to release gasoline vapors to the atmosphere. The computer has the ability to read the pressure in the fuel system. In Massachusetts, part of the annual safety inspection is a pressure test of the gas cap. They can be checked, but I would replace it; it shouldn't cost much. TAfter changin it the light may go off on its own depending on what kind of car you have. If it doesn't, it is easily extinguished by a trained diagnostician.

you might have had it on wrong to at some point tripping a code. if this is the case, all you will have to do is get the code reset. make sure your cap clicks at least twice when you put it on (most vehicles require you to set it like that).

If you remove it when the tank is not full and replace it that can happen. It may also not be tight.

Chances are the gasket has failed on your fuel cap. Buy a new one and see if that will help.
