I am upgrading a computer from 1.8 celeron with 1GB DDR 266 to amd athlon 64 3700+. I can transfer the ram on this board or upgrade to pc3200 (400). Is it worth buying all new memory? I have a 512 MB pci-e graphics card and sound card in already

um the speed increase from the memory would be probably about 10% but thats only if you get memory with good cas like corsair XMS. the real increase in speed is going to be that cpu, thats more than twice as fast as the celeron.

Do you have 2 sticks of ram 512MB each?

DDR is best if you use 2 sticks of the same memory to activate the dual channel. I wouldn't bother getting pc3200 if your RAM transfers over and are on 2 sticks.

Are you sure your new mobo isn't using DDR2 chips?

its not really a matter of the speed of the ram, more the CAS timing of the RAM this is how fast it can processes the information in and out of the RAM, its also worth spending a bit of serious buck on ram, since the better quality of ram the better the machine will run eg if you buy 1gb of cheap ram and buy 512mb, the 512mb will work better than the 1gb.
i would suggest something like cosair xs etc.. by what ever u can afford on max budget.
