Do you what makes you happy. In a couple years those critcal people won't be around anymore, so why try to please them? I was in band all the way through college playing a nerdy trombone, but I loved every minute of it. I proudly served as head drum major in my high school band and 10 years later, I look back with fond memories. Being in band also indirectly helped my guitar playing and technique ,and style. I have used those skills to jam with friends, even onstage at local venues and in restaurants.

Uhh well I think a band geek just means that you're interested in band. It sorta sounds like an insult, but in a way it's not. If someone does call you a band geek, ignore them, because it's a pretty stupid thing to say if they were supposed to insult you.
If it makes you feel any better, I'm a band geek. But more of a geek.

It's good to have talent. And just being a part of band will increase your chances of getting into college.

I was in band but I wasn't really a band person. I hated it and being around band peole made me mad because all they talked about was band. It was like they didn't have a life outside the bandroom. I dropped out of band this year. I'm proud.

Just play...be proud of your "band geekyness" and don't listen to anyone who tells you other wise
