I live in Oklahoma and work at a police department, and I'm taking off 20 days to go visit my fiance in Denmark for Christmas and New Years. I leave on the 16th ^_^! I'm so excited.

You get very few holidays in the States, don't you? My friend has this problem - his girlfriend lives in Chicago, and can never get enough time to visit him (in the UK).
It is quite normal now to have a Christmas shut down over here, depends on the calendar, but very few people expect to work between Christmas eve and 2nd January.

is that an awkward way of looking for a companion and / or friend to go with you ?, well any way have fun on your family vacation, and don't gain too much weight, or argue with family too much, and have a happy and prosperous new year !

My company is giving us the week off, but UNPAID. They claim they are giving us an opportunity for us to spend time with our families.
