Yes, and that all depends what you consider a police state but certainly figures into it.
We are a country with laws and political standards that are at times not with the current issues of its people.
Then there is all this,"babababababababababa "crap !
If you really don't think this is a police state, just go sit in the middle of Texas and say "I heard Texas is full of Steers and Queers" and I haven't seen a long horn steer in decades!
hahahahh
Then run like hell, those boys up there in those black and white trooper cars(DPS) shoot first and ask question later, that's if your still able to answer. They ride alone 99% of the time, when they come to you, always keep your hands where they can see them, on the steering wheel and the window down, a smile always helps !
Just trying to use an example of our rights, if you get pulled over, you have no rights, they have all controll until they decide your under their controll. You can't dispute the issue or denie whatever your accused of on the spot. You do have the right of due process under the law and most often its not in your favor because the way the laws are written.

Not yet but it is getting that way. When the justice system moves from assuming innocence to guilt things happen. The police abuse as well as judicial abuse is increasing as political influences replace old simple laws with new improved statutes. Limiting defense spending by public defenders and overloading the system with civil suits is taking away chances at justice. The fact that most public defenders are political pawns just paying dues for future office demonstrates the poor do not have a chance as justice. Rich buy freedoms the poor can only hope for.

Not yet, but it is coming. With the influx of illegal aliens, combined with ever increasing violent crime rates, not to mention more than one socially divisive isue, the stage is certainly being set.
Remember, a state of anarchy will most likely precede any genuine police state.

First, you need to define 'police state'. You are asking a significant question. Any intelligent discussion must start with clear definitions and avoidance of assumptions (or at least stating what those assumptions are).

Sadly, I believe we are moving slowly in that direction. And, I think the way it's happening is sibtle enough that many will not see it for what it is. Our government has very skillfully exploited certain world event to construct the notion that by restricting our personal freedoms, they are protecting us. Me, I'd rather take my chances with whatever comes....
