If polygamy was the status quo in America, would people think that men or women were in control of society?

People would think the man has control in the society, which is true for what it is now. A man thought of this idea in the first place. The thing is, he gets to have his little cake and eat too but he can't do the dishes (i.e., clean up the mess). If you've watched the documentaries on this, you will see how these women are even too afraid to speak. The ones who have escaped are a psychological mess. This is some man's bright idea to make adultery sinless.

Men, because he would be the patriarchal figure and all women would be socialized to be subservient to their masters. There is no equality in polygamy.

However, women would spend most of their time with their children, and it is in essence the women who bring up the family, so women would have a choice as how to socialize their children.

I still have to say men though. If those women allow themselves to be walked on, they probably always will.

Men because the woman would be veiwed as a piece of property much like in the slave days. Women would be treated as less than equals and would probably not have as many rights as we have now.
