You can access the songs on your Ipod by using the windows search function...

Open the search tool, and select your Ipod as the destination to search. Make sure that the option to show hidden files is selected.

Tpe the name of a song on your ipod and search....it will then show this song in the results window. You can then see the folders and files on your Ipod and should be able to copy them back across. They will have wierd names but the metadata and tags will be intact so that when you play them the right artist and track title are displayed.

As far as I know, you can download Itunes free - try softpedia.com for example, but there are many other places. Then before you attach your iPod you should be able to configure Itunes so that you can manually transfer your iPod stuff across. Don't allow it to sync automatically though or you'll lose all everything.

From what I have seen with my iPod, I believe that iPod's are basically designed so that you can put music on them, but can not take it back off again.
