Do you think celebrities acts of charity are genuine or they are for other reasons?

I question celebrities acts of charity. Are they really concerned for the needy or they are doing them just for public image? Of course some are really genuine( like Angelina Jolie) but I doubt the likes of Madonna. What are your opinions?

Some are genuine, and some are not. I'm not saying that the following scenario is true and do not mean to offend anyone. (It's only hypotheitcal.) Let's say you are a pro football player and you know that the NFL is one of the larger corporate givers of the United Way. All of the other athletes on your team is giving large donations. Do you feel pressured to contribute as well so the other teammates or your coach don't look down upon you since you would be the only one not giving? Also, by not giving does that mean you can't appear in the commercials which give you more face recognition?

To start with; most celebrities ARE charities until their deals pan out---living with parents, living in places their parents bought them, living in their friends'/lovers' places, etc.

When their deals pan out, of course they want to give back---sort of a way of passing-down their virtue without bothering to raise children. ('Raising children' is the greatest charity one can give, but it doesn't recieve full fruition in one's own lifetime.)

That virtue is passed down through the myth of the great amount the given celeb. gives to the cause. (I know it CAN be verified, but most people would rather accept the reported amount---the myth.)

Second, a celebrity IS their public image; oh, the famous people know that their personality is 'so much more' than that, but you asked about "celebrities," not 'the people celebrities really are.'

So yes, they ARE doing them for public image. Would they do charities WITHOUT public image; maybe, but would they be able to?

The genuineness, then, is not THAT they give or don't give, but WHAT THEY GIVE/DON'T-GIVE TO.

I think they 're sincere about it because the charities most choose are charities that are about issues they are facing in their lives or their family members have or are facing in their lives. And they want to help out. Like the rapper Nelly his sister died of leukemia and when she was living he was helping out in efforts to find a cure for leukemia and he still is today.

I think that they start to make a lot of money then they start to feel guilty about having so much when there are people out there with so little. So they start giving their money to charities and try to help people. A lot of it is PR though.
