Of course it is and maybe even beneficial. The reason that there is such ado about it, is because there are some people who do not know how moderate their alcohol intake...the key is moderation

Yes, it's fine. I would avoid alcohol altogether during the first trimester, but after that, a glass of wine is not going to hurt. Many European women and doctors are shocked by the "no alcohol" attitude of Americans. There *is* always the possibility of fetal alcohol syndrome, and noone can measure the safest low amount of alcohol for any given woman and any given pregnancy. But, the risks are so negligible. Many European docs will advise women to lie down and have a glass of wine to help with pre-labor contractions. Moderation is the key. No binge drinking, no hard liquor. Just enjoy your pregnancy!

I have heard and read many different views on this subject. Most doctors will tell you that they DO NO KNOW what the effects of alcohol are on the unborn child in small doses. Say a small glass of wine. That being said the effects could be birth defects or not. No one really knows. It is not uncommon for women in Europe to drink small amounts of wine throughout thier pregnancy.
It is strongly reccomended that you abstain from drinking any alcohol during the first trimester.

Alcohol and pregnancy don't mix. That's because no one knows exactly what harmful effects even the smallest amount of alcohol has on a developing baby. All public health officials in the United States recommend that mothers-to-be play it safe by steering clear of alcohol entirely. Who knows which part of the baby is developing while you're drinking that glass of wine? Not worth the risk!!!!!

Yes.. you'll be fine. Way too much overreaction on the alcohol/pregnancy thing. Sure... downing a fifth of vodka a day will harm the baby, but not an occasional glass. The professionals are saying, basically, we don't know how much is too much, so best to err on the side of caution and stay away completely.

As long as it is not overdone. The reason doctors in the US say no alcohol at all during pregnancy because younger women have tended to use it as an excuse to drink whenever they feel like it. Or they hear "in moderation" and think that they can binge drink a few times and everything will be OK because they didn't do it all the time.
I have heard that it is OK once every week or two.

I'd say as long as your not in your first trimester a glass of wine every once in a while will NOT harm the baby...but never go on any binges because it does hurt the baby...they will have too much alcohol in their blood...they get everything you do. God Bless u and your child!

yes it is okay to have a glass of wine during pregnancy. At lease once you do not over do it just one glass of wine and watch the alcohol level.

why is having a glass of wine so important to some pregnant women? I mean is it really that hard to put your unborn ahead of yourself and just wait until the baby is here before you soak in the alcohol..pardon my opinion! But if docs don't even want us having cough medicine that contains alcohol..then why would a glass of wine be ok??
