Or is it just a prejudice term? Do you think it's bad to be "white trash", even if you/they are happy?

What if we didn't have people like this...and they were competing for "higher end" jobs, instead of doing the janitorial-type jobs, or no job at all? What if they have a small mental disorder and can't help their tendencies...not to mention outside influences and poor environment?

Of course it's a prejudiced term, but it's still a term that has a very definite usage. Whether it's bad to be white trash really depends on your own perception - doesn't it? Most people certainly do think it's bad to be white trash and use the term to describe any white people from the lower end of the socioeconomic scale who don't fit to their ideal standards of behavior/attitude.

About your what if scenario - (forget about white trash at the moment) If this happened, then there would be more people competing for higher-end jobs. It doesn't necessarily follow that we would have no more janitors. Just look at the salaries of garbagemen - quite high even though this is a "low-end" job. In any case, there are other forms of enticement to these "low-end" jobs, which are not necessarily occupied by society's undesirables as your question insinuates.
And, if they can't help themselves but be white trash? That's a pretty funny question. It sounds like you're raising an issue of tolerance or questioning the state of welfare - I'm not sure which.

Try living next to some and you'll be a lot less forgiving- Blasting Kid Rock at three in the morning, drinking on their front lawn and yelling at your kids, walking around in front of windows fat and in their underwear- YECH.
On the other hand there's a difference between POOR and TRASHY, I don't fault anybody for not having money. Actually I don't have any myself but I am not burning out the drivewway in a rusty Camero with a duct taped rearview mirror.

white trash are the ones that don't work. don't take care of their kids , and make no efforts to better the community. They mostly keep the jails full and take all the help from the government." Being poor isn't a sin , but being nasty is," from my granny

It's a prejudice term. I don't think anyone should be refereed to as trash no matter what their race.

Trash comes in all colors. We just call different colors different names for trash! It can mean different things to many people.

lack of jobs.. the ones that sit on their porches all day and
drink busch beer and smoke cigs all day. no shirt on, dog
crap all over the place. 9,000 plants on the 50 square foot
porch... the ones with somewhere between 1 and 6 teeth.
. ok. , i will stop now.. my list could go on FOREVER>.

if a person is a guest on Jerry Springer you safe in assuming they are, indeed, white trash.
