Well, that's 360 Sq Ft, on each side, I guess, so 720 sq ft.
A square covers 100 sq ft. plus waste. I'd get 8 squares

A little more information needed, but it is easy. Just measure each plane of the roof. Doesn't matter about pitch. If the 30 is the length of the roof and the 12 is the length along the sloped edge, then that means that plane is 360 sq.ft. Assuming the other side is the same then it is 720 sq.ft, or 7.2 squares. If the 12 is the horizontal length, you can figure the slope if you know the pitch. But that is making things more complicated than it needs to be. Just measure the sq ft of each plane of the roof. Add them together and divide by 100. That is the number of squares. If you need to know for a contractor, just tell him that. If estimating materials, you need to round up or add 2-3% depending on valleys and dormers and complicated roof. You also need to note the perimeter for drip edge, the ridge for ridge cap, box or ridge vents, boots for plumbing vent pipe, 15# felt, 30# felt for valleys, and I'm sure I'm forgetting something.

You will need to know roof pitch also. Square footage is calulated using lenth x width, but that only works for a flat surface. With the slope of the roof that number will change. Try www.diynetwork.com
