We just gave our landlord our 60 day notice. We would like to go to Charlotte, NC. I don't know where we will be living but figure we'll stay at a hotel until we can find a place. Any advice?

Congratulations! We moved to the western NC mountains from Colorado about 18 months ago and we love it. The people are friendly and easy to get to know.

We live about 2 hours from Charlotte in the mountains in Boone which is right on the Blue Ridge Parkway. If you like to get outdoors, I recommend planning visits up to this area for seeing the fall colors, hiking, cycling (this is one of the areas Lance Armstrong came to recover on the bike following his cancer and he has mentioned it is one of his favorite places to ride), climbing, rafting, fishing, etc. There is also great mountain music and festivals year round up here. You will also be just a few hours from the coast and there is tons of great historical sites in NC and nearby.

For living, consider going just north towards Lake Norman. My brother in law lives in Denver, NC on the lake and there, Huntersville, Cornelius, and surrounding areas seem like a great place to live or grow a business.

I think you'll enjoy it here!

Charlotte is a wonderful city to live in- and it def. is growing economically.

My aunt lived in Matthews, NC and in Indian Trail-- right outside Charlotte. They actually just moved back to PA but I know for a fact they are building A LOT of housing developments down there. Stayin in a hotel is a good idea- a lot of them offer low weekly rates.

I would start applying to jobs also. It wouldnt hurt to get a head start. You can also look at available housing too. That way you could save yourself a little money by not stayin in a hotel and get settled right away.

Good luck! Enjoy!! I lived in Columbia, SC which is only 1.5hrs from Charlotte and visited often. Such a beautiful place.

I think Charlotte is beautiful -- we relocated here in 1998 from NY. There are plenty of options in terms of housing -- many apartment complexes even write short term leases. Compared to where I was in NY, housing is much less expensive here. Let me know if I can help in any way.
