Well, honestly, neither of you are goths because none of that music is goth music, so I suppose you're both posers. As I Lay Dying and even Marilyn Manson are not remotely goth and the bands she likes definitely aren't either. And since the goth subculture is a music subculture, I would say one of the requirements of being a goth is listening to goth music and since you nor the person you know listen to goth music, you're not goths at all. For actual goth music, check out Bauhaus and Siouxsie and the Banshees (and those are just two of the most well-known goth bands, I can get way more obscure if I need to).

There's no goth soundtrack. You can be a goth even if you listen to Christian music. (Thou Shalt Not comes IMMEDIATELY to mind. Lots of goths like them, but they've got an undeniable Christian slant.) Heck, I'm an elder and I'm more inclined to say things like "well, you might be a goth EVEN IF you listen to Manson." It's all a matter of perspective, and there are plenty different perspectives to go around in this vast subculture.

Maybe this girl wants to be a wiccan, but still lives with her parents, and so can't. Even if she is a Christian, so what? There's no accepted goth religion.

It sounds like you're both playing the "gother than thou" game, and frankly, your time would be better spent in other diversions. Do you just not like eachother because of this, or is there something else? If you're just competing, but otherwise have no problem with eachother, maybe you'd do better to try to get to know eachother better. I know, I'm a dreamer. It's just a suggestion.

But seriously, it doesn't make you look more goth to put her down. Just accept whatever people want to do, and if you don't like what they're doing, it's not like you can do anything to change them. You'll look more genuine to other people if you just do your thing, and let everyone else do theirs.

Why the catfight? Both of you have your own style, as it should be. And neither of you are goth, you're what is referred to as a Baby goth, which means although you like the concept of being goth, you're not aware of what goth is. It's not a bad thing, we all start there. Marilyn Manson is not goth, Bauhaus, the Cruxshadows, Sisters of Mercy, and Switchblade Symphony are. Goths are not necessarily Wiccans, many are devout Christians. Don't get into some fight with this girl over who's more goth, because its pointless. Just be happy with yourself, and ignore all the idiots out there.

There's more than one kind of goth. You don't have to like the same bands to be goth--and you certainly don't have to know the words to songs that you like.

Not sure what you mean "acts like she does Wiccan"--Wicca is a religion; you "act like" you belong to it by celebrating its holidays, doing its prayers and religious services, honoring its gods. Wearing Wiccan-style jewelry doesn't make a person Wiccan any more than wearing a cross and knowing some bible verses makes a person Christian.

Ouija boards aren't part of the Wiccan religion, even though a lot of Wiccans can use them. But I'm not sure why she'd try to tell you what bands you like, as if liking goth music means you can't like any other kind.

I'm a Christian goth, and goths can listen to any genre or kind of music they want. Also, the bands you listed aren't goth. They're screamo, metal and shock-rock. It's music whose fanbase is composed primarily of young teenagers. Please visit goth.net if you need a clarification. And what's wrong with listening to Relient K? Apparently you've never heard 'The pirates who don't do anything'.
