80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.
I've come to two conclusions recently:
1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.
First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.
Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.
So the bottom line is, we only have a temporary meaning to life, to reduce pain and increase pleasure, other than that everything is lost to oblivion.

you can't know the answer to this question till your done living the question itself...(what is the meaning of life) I like to think we all have a part to play in creation. Are you doing your part to help create? will you be able to someday say that life meant something to you...what part did you play? I think this is when we will know the answer to this question. (what is the meaning of life) It has no meaning unless you give it meaning. (but then again...what do I know. I'm still living the question)

If you're talking about the meaning of a human's life, the answer is simple - to look and care after the animals and the nature around them.

Life means consiousness, to varying degrees depending on what kind of life your talking about. Humans have a lot of capacity for consiousness and can ask the question what does it mean? I dont think we are able to answer that question just yet, but if the question is what is our purpose, then that can definitly be answered.

The meaning fo life is found only in the one who created it in the first place. God. He wants to give us a life that never ends. This is eternal life with him. Listen to this passage from the Gospel of John:
"And this is eternal life, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent."
Eternal life is defined as a relationship with the one who made us and the one who gave his life for us on the cross who is alive today. God offers us a life that never ends, one with purpose and meaning. As I live now in Christ, I know that Christ can do things through me that will impact other people for all eternity for the glory of God. Jesus can bless people through this life that he has given to me.
