Positioning does not matter. My 5 month old died from SIDS and she was on her BACK. I think there study showing that SIDS has decreased with back sleeping is crap too because I find it awfully funny that there are only a few mothers in my SIDS group who lost their babies while on their tummy and the rest were on their backs, sides, in stroller, in car seats, in swings, and even being held. People believe it and so that is what they are pushing on people. I once bought it too until my baby died on her back and so have many, many, many others. It's funny to see everyone preaching this because they really think that will ensure their babies life. Well I hope you all don't find out the hard way like me and so many others mom did that positioning means sqaut. Sure a baby can be on its stomach and suffocate, but that is not SIDS!!!!! SIDS is an unexplained death upon an autopsy and suffocation is obviously an explanation. Just another thing that so many people are clueless about. SIDS is not suffocation. All in all you do what is best for your baby and for you. Don't do what anyone else tells you, I did and look where it got me. My other two slept on their tummy if they wanted, back, side, I didn't care. They are both healthy and fine, BACK TO SLEEP is BS.

SUFFOCATION IS NOT SIDS PEOPLE. I am so tired of seeing people say "because if you put them on their tummy the could suffocate and die of SIDS." NOT THE SAME THING!!!!

ALL of my babies have been put to sleep on their sides until they were old enough that I was comfortable with them being on their back. I rolled up recieving blankets and propped them on their sides. I have always been scared that they would spit up and choke while they were asleep, plus the fact that my babies were all mucousy for the first while scared me too. I told my doctor and he said that if that makes me comfortable, and the baby is fine, then it's ok. He told me that that is what HE does with his own children. He said that sleeping on their tummy's is not ok until they are older, but side and back sleep is just fine. I did this for about 3 months. You're fine in doing that, but I would be sure that there is no way they baby can roll onto his tummy.

They say not to because they could roll over and suffocate, but You can buy a "wedge" to place the baby in...It's just this fabric that has a wedge on each end to prevent the baby from rolling. Simply place it in the crib and lay baby down between the wedges. Make sure that the wedges are placed evenly on his belly and his back and not towards his face. All my children refused to sleep any way except for on their bellies.( i was a nervous wreck.lol) They also say this is bad but as long as there is no blankets or loose sheets or clothing up around their face, they are fine. Babies are pretty smart, they know when to turn their heads.

Its the SIDS campaign that urges moms to put babies on there backs because it decreases in some cases the chances of suffocation because babies muscles are not strong when they are newborns and if they were to roll over from the side position into a face down position they may not be able to get back out of it and could die. If you bunt you baby or use a sleep positioner it should be fine but back seems to be recommended.

I think the general idea is that back sleeping is safest to reduce SIDS. Back sleeping has the lowest rate of SIDS deaths, side sleeping is second, and stomach sleeping is last. There is also the risk of the baby rolling onto his stomach from the side position and being unable to breathe. If your baby must sleep on its side, make sure you use a sleep positioner. This stops the baby from rolling onto his stomach.

If you want to put your baby to sleep in 20 seconds you must get the "Instant Baby Sleep" MP3 sound track. Here is their official web-site: http://www.instantbabysleep.net

The sound track gently produces energy over the full human hearing spectrum with an embedded pulse that gently eases the brain to the Alpha state well known for drowsiness and sleep induction.

You can put him on his side to sleep, just use a rolled up blanket to stop him from rolling onto his stomach. Also once he can roll from stomach to back you no longer have to worry at all.

(In addition if you are co-sleeping babies almost always sleep on their side while co-sleeping and very rarely if ever roll over onto their bellies. Just in case you are co-sleeping like me ;-) )

I've never heard of that being bad but if you think about it if you put him on his side and for some reason he rolls over (babies don't roll over that young but for some strange reason) his face will be facing the mattress and that would be pressing his face so he might not be able to breath I don't really know so its just a thought.

Please do not put your baby to sleep on their sides or on their stomach.
Research has found that SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome) is contributted to babies who sleep tis way. The best thing to do is have them sleep on their backs.

Good Luck, and congrats on your baby
