I suggest to try and read the book again. It's difficult at the beginning, but once you get into it you'll love it! About songs, you should try as many people have suggested the FOTR soundtrack, or songs by Enya, Clannad, Loreena McKennit, Adiemus; something New Age maybe. There's also a funny song called Hobbit on the Rocks by Toad the Wet Sprocket. Hope this helps.

The Fellowship of the Ring has a lot of different themes you could work from. One song could be Carole King's "You've Got a Friend" the lyrics are available (Google it). This could relate to Sam or Merry or Pippin in regards to their willingness to go with Frodo - example "I'll be there!"

Please tell us does it have to be today's music. If you list 10-15 themes from the book I will try to rack my rickety brain to help you. Add info to your ?
I am sorry I tried to get through this book in college but is it was insufferable.
ok because I am a sick pup!! and I can not let anything go once I start it. Here are the major themes from a website I found.
If you can use older music or if anyone can match a song to the theme please feel free. The Moody Blues (60s) had a lot of these themes in their music.I have 2 examples below but just listen to one of their cds and you will get it.
The Corrupting Influence of Power-Question ( yes that is a song title)
The Inevitability of Decline-English Sunset
The Power of Myth
Folklore-Are you Sitting Comfortably oops #3
The Road
Prophecy
Symbols
And apparently responsible use of weapons?

try the soundtrack, theres a song from the return of the king thats cool and i have it in my itunes, into the west. theres the song the bilbo sings as he leaves bag end, the road goes ever on and on. i would try songs that relate to enduring friendship or slow, sad, or slow-happy songs that make u think of the books. watching the movies might help, they get u into the feel of the books and they have music playing the whole time.

the 1st was "the fellowship of the ring"
I don't remeber the name, but Led Zeppelin did a song about that,it might be "over the hills and far away"

There are lots of songs in the book, use those.
Read it. You are SO lucky to get to study that instead of the stuff I had to study.

I don't think there are any songs related to it. outside the book
