I'm a grandma and g-grandma and I really don't need any more dust collectors around my house. Since we usually have everything we need, I always just like to get flowers or a nice framed picture of my grand-children if I don't have a new one. I also like to get my favorite perfume or my favorite candy(which happens to be chocolate covered cherries). But please don't give me anymore knick knacks. :-) I also have a closet full of sweaters that I very rarely wear so scratch clothes also. I'm not into reading books, but I used to Crochet and didn't mind getting yarns.

How old is Grandma? If she is old enough that she stays home all the time then she would appreciate a book of stamps and a box of "all occasion cards". If she is young and still gets out a lot then any gift you would give your own mother would be good. My daughter always gives my mother a current school picture of herself in a frame. Another great idea that I've seen one of my clients get (she's 96) was a very special "scrapbook" of family photos...it took time to make it so well but it meant a lot to her.

My grandmother always liked something yummy or something homemade or sentimental. Really indulgent chocolates can be great if she is allowed to have them. You could make her an ornament - maybe with a picture of the 2 of you together. Knit her a scarf. One of those calendars that has family pictures in it (Kinko's used to do them at a good price). A picture in a frame or a locket with pictures in it.

Alternatively, you could get her something that you like. I once gave my grandma my own sunglasses and she loved them, even though they were mirrored john lennon specs with the color gradient - but they suited her just perfectly (and she looked adorable in them too!). Wouldn't it be great if you had a cd that you loved and it turned out she really dug it too?

Peace!

Scented candles are always good. A cardigan is also a good gift. This year I'm giving Grandma something called 'Gift in a Jar.'

I don't know if you're into crafts, but one year I made for my friends grand-mother, a basket of bears. Each one representing a member of the family. The grand-parents bears were the biggest, their children were the next smaller size bears, the grandchildren were the smallest. I dressed them up, put their names on ribbons (girls) and suspenders (boys) and decorated a big basket to put them in. I was told that on Christmas day, the family had fun looking for their bear! :-)

Visiting her on Christmas or hosting her at your home (if she is still alive). I, on the other hand, will be sending to my grandmothers on Christmas a small display for the gravesights and my wishes that they are enjoying the peace they need after long, hard lives. (They died when I was very young -- in my childhood).

I bought my Grandma this beautiful Angel statue this one year and she liked it so much that she cried. You could also frame a picture of yourself with a loving "Grandma" poem framed underneath of it.

I am making my grandma a scrapbook calendar (you can usually find them at places that sell calendars) and I will decorate it with photos of my family throughout the years.
