A religion that was started in Im not sure of the year, but a long time ago started by the prophet Muhammed. Muhammed was said to be the last of Gods messengers, well Allah, Allah divinely inspired the Quran and it was not completely written down however until after Muhammeds death before that it was memorized. The religion of Islam is close to christianity in that it has the same major players, the major difference being Islam believes that Christ was a prophet like Muhammed and not the son of Christ. Women actually have more rights according to Islam than the christian bible if properly utilized.
That said there are things about it i dont understand such as the whole infidel part and why mohammed declared jihad against neighboring countries in order to get land when first starting out.

I know I don't know much. I'm Canadian so I haven't learned much of Asian history in school including what is now called the middle east. I have learned a little about the ottoman empire and about how during the dark ages the Muslim culture was considerably more advanced then christian ones. They went into isolation from the west and then failed to develop much and after the industrial revolution where technically behind. This new stance angered some Muslims.

I know some Muslims and think they are very spiritual people. They are intelligent. Although I realize these are just the ones I know and shouldn't stereotype too much.

The main concern I have with Islam is how they treat their women. IT seems that some of the rules are barbaric such as the fact that a rape victim could get tried for adultery if she cant get four men to testify against the accused rapist.

Your average man in the street knows very little about any religion, not just Americans,I am saying your average guy from anywhere in the world.
I know its not much of a guide but I have been asking questions on yahoo about religion for a long time, just to discover the same as you have.
Perhaps (strangely) the Christians seem to know very little about what it is they are supposed to believe to be a Christian.
Perhaps because that must be the most complicated (and most unbelievable) of the lot.
Their Holy Trinity thing gives other religions the impression that Christians think there is more than one God!
So I guess your answer is 'next to nothing'.

It is a male dominated society where women have no rights and the slightest provocation they blew up somebody.
women are bought and sold and if they get raped they are killed for adultry. Men pretty much get by with anything they want to do.
One boy wanted to talk to me, he asked me if I was allowed to date. I asked him, "was he a muslim" He said, "Yes was that a problem? I told him "Not for me because I wouldn't date you if you were the last man on earth. Not now knowing what I know about them. Most of the other girls feel the same way.
But the muslim girls can't date anyone but muslim boys.
I asked him if that wasn't very inequal. He said, like they always do "That is just the way it is."
I told him, "well this is the way it is for me. Don't even think about it." They are not real popular in school right now.

You follow the teaching of Mohamed supposedly the last prophet. married 12 women one was nine, Went to Medina said lets be friends with Jews. Stole from the merchants going from Syria to Mecca first recorded saying God is great. When 600 Jewish men refused to change faith behead buried the bodies in Medina town square, sold the women and children into slavery. This is just Mohamed but the rest reads mostly the same. Christian apologized for the crusades but Muslims put to the sword nations that would not change faiths Palestine for one

I know that Islam was started by the Arabians. Muhammad had a vision and started it in i believe Mecca. Some are good some arent. You have to wear a chadoor and cover your whole body even in summer heat i also have read in newspapers that people as young as blow themselves up for Allah and their religion. So they do suicide to honor their god it is a true fact and i have seen actual videos of children doing that. A recent grandmother of 30 exploded herself while injuring 3 other Israeli men. 2 11 year olds said "its a beautiful thing" and the muslims of Islam have been brainwashed with textbooks, music videos, even animated cartoons urging them that suicide is a good thing for their god Allah.

I know that it is a religion based on the teachings of the prophet Mohammed who received the holy Qaran in Heaven from God in about 687 CE. He ascended to heaven on a ladder in Jerasulem that sprang from the site that is now the al Aqsa mosque. When he returned to Earth, he shared the word with others and slowly built a following. The 5 pillars of Islam (belief in God as the only God, 5 times daily prayer, the making of the Hajj, giving of alms, and I forget the 5th one) are fundamentals of the faith. After his death, disagreement sprang up as to whether leadership of the faith and imams should come from direct family lineage or other learned scholars. This started the schism between Shia and Sunni branches.

Islam picked up the ashes of the Roman, Persian, and Babylonian empires and became the repository of all the learned achievements that had been made up until that time.

Since about 1000 CE, however, the advancements of the Muslims have mostly come through bellicose means. They have stopped advancing the cause of science and intellect and instead have become a barbaric and warlike people. The belief in the uma and the quest for Har-el-Salaam have caused bloodshed within their own people and with all whom they have come in contact. In the 20th and 21st centuries, the Muslims have shown themselves to be completely incompatible with modern ways of life and cannot adjust to the modern world. As such, they need to eliminated, just as civilized societies have destroyed all barbaric and uncivilized cultures around them since recorded history.

They are scary and discouraging to me.
There are mixed messages about whether they can see living in a world of non-believers. I hear that they want to dominate the world and all those who do not believe are to be killed as infidels, according to the teachings of Islam.
I believed in WORLD PEACE coming one day until the ugly face of Islam reared its ugly head (or as I understand it).
If I am WRONG, those peace loving ISLAM believers need to SPEAK OUT NOW!!!! AND GET PRESS COVERAGE!!!!!

Haven't you heard of honor killings in Turkey? There was recently an article about it. A woman whose husband doesn't want her anymore can be pressured to commit suicide.

Hating people because they are different is a very immature reaction, but at the same time, all is not well.

Personally, I am tired of "not all of us" and "most are peace-loving, religiously tolerant" crap.

You want us to not be suspicious and intolerant of Muslims? Fine. Teach the Muslims to stand up all over the world and start acting like normal human beings who detest the terrorists as much as we do and are willing to make big sacrifices like we do to stop terrorism in Israel, Europe, & the USA
